Here's to our 20th Annual Dinner Dance
On November 1st in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral transformed into a vibrant hub of Cretan heritage as we celebrated our 20th Annual Dinner Dance. Marking almost 25 years of preserving and promoting Cretan traditions in the Carolinas, the event brought together 350 guests from near and far, fostering a sense of community, joy and cultural pride.
Our association has grown into a cornerstone for Greek-Americans in the Carolinas. This year's milestone dance was a testament to our enduring mission, blending authentic Cretan music and dancing with a sumptuous dinner that includes “gamopilafo” and an unforgettable night of entertainment.
The musical highlights were nothing short of spectacular. Cretan artists Vaggelis Alexakis and Grigoris Paragioudakis, joined by Polihroni Tsabunieris on laouto, delivered soul-stirring performances that echoed our island's resilient spirit. The “laika” segments by Marinos Loumis and Vasilis Tsoukalas provided additional tunes that kept everyone on their feet until late in the night.
A special moment came when the "Timios Stavros" Cretan Youth of Charlotte group took the floor. This newly formed chapter of the PYA performed traditional Cretan dances that made us proud, honoring Crete's folkloric roots and drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The event's success was amplified by the dedication of sponsors, members, and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. We thank everyone that has helped evolve our dinner dance from humble beginnings into a beloved tradition that strengthens our ties within the Greek diaspora in the Carolinas.
